For Alexandra: a tattoo symbolizing soulmates. {Would love to hear your interpretations of this piece!} At our consultation, Alexandra was calm and collected, and her partner was taking an understanding backseat as she recalled their journey: hidden initial emotions and feelings, falling in love, engaging to a future, breaking an engagement because of suffocation, welcoming new experiences to breathe, reuniting happier and more whole, blaming no one. Listening, I found that I was drawn to how they chose to live un-apologetically after breaking up, but by a force (more natural rather than coincidental), they came together once more, less lost. It's as if they were free to be lost, unknowingly & safely bound to eachother. Which brought me to the question: "If two lost people find each other, are they still lost?" Common sense says yes, but my heart says no. How beautiful it is... To be lost together in this maze of life. It was that very question and the conflicting answers that brought me to this design. The statues face different directions, representing separate paths, representing the desire to live his/her own life—and that's perfectly fine. Though they are blind, unaware of each other, the very blindfold that brings vulnerability also brings camaraderie, a beautiful sense of irony I wanted to portray in the double purposed blindfold. In Asian folklore, we say lovers are connected by a “red string of fate”, but we changed it up a bit, making it a red blindfold, blinding but binding the lovers. A part of her beautiful submission: "I was with my ex for six years and we were engaged, but we called off the wedding about a year ago because of suffocating each other with ideas of what and who we should be and not who we really, truly were. (...) since then, we've had time to think, and to date other people, but something keeps bringing us back together. It feels like a cosmic pull in a way, like we're connected psychically, which I've never had with anyone else." Source
