Legendary Tattooer Thom DeVita Dies at 86
The tattoo community mourns the passing of one of its most unique American tattoo artists
Long-time tattooist Thom DeVita passed away this weekend. He was a pioneer in the art of tattooing in the United States, and he will be missed greatly by the entire tattoo community.
DeVita started tattooing in New York City's Lower East Side in the mid 60s, when tattooing was illegal in the city, and quickly began to forge his own style. He has been tattooing and creating fine art for almost 50 years.
Six years ago Vice released a five-part Tattoo Age episode featuring Thom DeVita, a history lesson that you should not miss.
Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
